Tallinn Deputy Mayor Vadim Belobrovtsev noted that the decision to postpone the event was a difficult one. “We hoped until the last moment that this year’s Tall Ships Races regatta would still take place in a regular and spectacular manner. But as one of the host cities, we were forced to postpone the event until 2024 due to coronavirus restrictions and the continued spread of the virus, “said the deputy mayor.

“But in order to offer the Tallinn residents and their guests positive emotions instead of the canceled regatta, we will be holding a harbor festival in the five inner city ports, where we will also welcome ships that would have participated in the Tall Ships Races regatta and maybe we could have another Organize smaller regattas in cooperation between three cities – Tallinn, Klaipeda and Szczecin, “added Belobrovtsev.

A family festival will be held in the cruise area of the Old City Port, Kalaranna District, Patarei Naval Fortress, Seaplane Port (Lennusadam) and Noblessner District from June 16-18. Estonian and foreign artists provide entertainment on land, street cafes, children’s areas, a fish market and many other activities are offered. The festival will be free.

The Tall Ships Races 2022 will visit the North Sea with Esbjerg (Denmark), Harlingen (Netherlands), Antwerp (Belgium) and Aalborg (Denmark) as host cities. The international regatta is set to take place in the cities of Den Helder (Netherlands), Hartlepool (UK), Fredrikstad (Norway) and Lerwick (UK) in 2023 and return to Tallinn and the Baltic Sea in 2024.

The largest international sailing training regatta, Tall Ships Races, visited Tallinn back in 1992 and the fleet also made stops in Tallinn in 2007, 2013 and 2017 as part of the Cruise-in-Company initiative. Several Estonian yachts took part in the regatta and also took home some awards.
