MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida. – A South Florida woman was arrested Wednesday on charges of stealing a puppy from a veterinary clinic in June.

Madelyn Acosta, 46, was charged with aggravated third-degree theft in front of a judge Thursday.

Police believe she is the woman featured in a surveillance video stealing a puppy from its carrier at the Best Care Animal Clinic on Southwest Eighth Street in the Miami-Dades University Park neighborhood while the dog handler pays the bill Has.

Lenier Mesa, a Cuban singer who lives in Miami, posted on social media that the Pomeranian puppy was his and that he disappeared after a relative took him to the vet to get his vaccines.

According to police, Acosta hid the puppy under her shirt before leaving. They said she took the puppy to the veterinary clinic last month.

Acosta is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in lieu of a $ 5,000 bond. The judge ordered her to stay away from the veterinary clinic on Thursday.
