Chelsea in contract talks with young prospect Gallagher after the move to Crystal Palace was agreed

The Blues midfielder is slated for another season outside Stamford Bridge but will be playing a season in the Premier League for the first time

Conor Gallagher did a doctorate at Crystal Palace prior to a year-long loan at Selhurst Park – but the move is being delayed due to contract talks in west London.

Chelsea are trying to retain their 20-year-old star who was the pick from last season’s loan group as he has less than two years on his current contract.

A season loan deal is expected to be signed and Gallagher will follow in the footsteps of Ruben Loftus-Cheek after spending a year in south London before securing a permanent spot on the first-team squad would have.

Lampard played in a friendly against Gallagher in a 1-1 draw with Brighton at Amex Stadium on the Saturday before the 2020/21 season.

Gallagher has targeted a move to the Premier League this season and Palace won the race amid competition from several other top clubs.

This came after the local star was on loan at both Charlton Athletic and Swansea City last season and eventually lost to the South Wales club in the championship play-off semi-finals.

The English U21s have had a huge impact in the championship, playing 47 games, scoring six goals and receiving eleven assists.

In the meantime, Ethan Ampadu was also seen in the pre-season friendly and is still trying to get a spot on Lampard’s squad despite loan interest.

Jake Clarke-Salter appears ready for another loan in the championship, with Derby County, Huddersfield Town, Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday showing interest in him.

Newly promoted Premier League clubs West Bromwich Albion could be another option as Chelsea are judging which club would be best suited to their development after a good year at Birmingham last season.

USMNT international Matt Miazga is on loan for another season, with a number of clubs overseas trying to secure the defender. Danny Drinkwater and Baba Rahman both played for the U23 against Palace this weekend and are also looking into their options for a move.

Meanwhile, Rennes, along with a number of Premier League clubs, have offered Fikayo Tomori a loan deal. Everton are among those who are still haunted by the domestic defender who broke through last season.

Chelsea’s newest recruit, Malang Sarr, has loan interest from Germany after Chelsea announced he would be on loan for the next season despite being signed just last week.

Nathan Baxter and Dujon Sterling are likely to have another season of temporary moves from Chelsea, with 10 players in the group being looked after by Claude Makelele’s loan department.
