RWE has submitted applications for site permits for all eleven areas that the Polish government has offered for offshore wind expansion since the start of the application period for the first sites in 2021.
The Germany-based company said that by applying for all 11 areas, it wants to strengthen its presence and continue the energy transition process in Poland and is ready to invest in all 11 areas.
According to information from the beginning of last month, RWE submitted a total of six applications by April.
The land offered by the Polish government is dedicated to the development of offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 10 GW and energy islands.
RWE is not the only major developer to have applied for one or more offshore site licenses in the Polish Baltic Sea.
Polish energy companies PKN Orlen and PGE submitted several applications back in February, and PGE, together with Ørsted, have also applied for an area next to their Baltica offshore wind project.
SSE Renewables is jointly bidding for a site with Acciona Energia, and TotalEnergies has partnered with KGHM, a Polish state-owned mining company, to jointly bid on the tender.
According to Polish Deputy Infrastructure Minister Marek Gróbarczyk, the government has received 125 applications so far.
In February 2021, Poland signed the Offshore Law regulating the development of offshore wind farms in the Polish Baltic Sea.
The legislation stipulates that 10.9 GW of offshore wind capacity will be either operational or under development by 2027.
