A small dog that was found wandering the streets in a state of distress is on the mend and several people have presented potential information, the RSPCA has confirmed.

The Pomeranian male was found in Edmonton on Saturday in what RSPCA Queensland described as “very poor condition with a number of conditions requiring urgent treatment” and taken to a veterinarian.

RSPCA Cairns Director Natalie Anger said the dog has been slowly recovering since being taken in.

The RSPCA Qld Inspection asks for any information concerning its owner. Picture: supplied.

“He’s getting there slowly – he’s had his vet check, including dewormer treatment and vaccinations, and we’ve had to shave off some of the matted fur,” she said.

“He looks a bit brighter and isn’t in so much pain.”

Ms Anger said the dog was quite old and his vision was not very strong at first.

“Considering everything, he’s pretty likeable and getting a little more confident around us,†she said.

RSPCA Queensland spokesman Michael Beatty said that since launching a call for information on the mystery dog, a number of people have come forward claiming to own the male Pomeranian or know whose belonged.

“We are going through these now to look at what happened that led to a bad road,” he said.
