What are the dates of the four day bank holiday for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee?

Thanks to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, there’s a bonus bank holiday for everyone in the UK this year. Her Majesty will celebrate a remarkable 70th jubilee on the throne in 2022 and a long summer weekend of special events and tributes is planned.

The unprecedented anniversary, which marks the first time a British monarch has achieved such a milestone, actually fell on Sunday February 6 this year, the MEN reports.

However, the celebrations are set to take place over a four-day weekend in June. This historic event will host a whole host of public events to mark the occasion, from the Platinum Pudding Contest – aimed at finding a dish dedicated to Elizabeth II’s long reign – to the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, at the new trees planted will present her at the end of the year.

For most of us, however, this summer’s four-day bash – around which the various national activities will take place – will be the highlight. After the Spring Bank Holiday – which normally takes place in May – is moved to Thursday 2nd June for a special occasion, the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday follows on Friday 3rd June, along with Saturday and Sunday.

The official royal website said of the holiday: “On 6 February this year, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee. It marks 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Empire and the Commonwealth.

“To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, events and initiatives will take place throughout the year, culminating in a four-day UK Bank Holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June. The bank holiday provides an opportunity for communities and people across the UK to come together to celebrate this historic milestone.”
