Vestas signs supply contract for Baltic Eagle wind turbines

Iberdrola and Vestas have signed a contract for the delivery of 50 units of the Vestas V174-9.5 MW wind turbine model for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm in Germany.

The contract follows the selection of Vestas (MHI Vestas) as the preferred supplier for the project in 2019 and is accompanied by a service and maintenance contract.

The wind turbines will be installed on monopile foundations on an area of 40 square kilometers northeast of the island of Rügen off the Pomeranian Baltic Sea coast in water depths between 40 and 45 meters.

The electricity produced by the wind turbines will be transferred from the project’s offshore substation onshore to the onshore transmission network in Lubmin.

At the beginning of this month, Iberdrola signed contracts for the Baltic Eagle offshore substation with the German transmission system operator 50Hertz and with the joint venture Iemants-Fabricom, Heerema Marine Contractors and Siemens Gas and Power.

After commissioning in 2024, the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm will produce around 1.9 TWh of electricity annually, enough to meet the needs of 460,000 households and avoid the emission of 800,000 tons of CO2 per year into the atmosphere.
